Hey Rick Noble here, And you‟re reading my uncensored review of what Ireally think about the Epiphone Les Paul Standard.

Note that this is a review though. If your looking to buy the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Then Click Here.

Why am I writing this? Well, when I was thinking about buying the Epiphone Les Paul standard, there weren”t many real reviews around so I thought I‟d write one to help any of you who are in the same position I was.

As you probably know Epiphone has been around since the 1950s and is actually a subsidary of Gibson.

The main focus ever since has been to build a guitar to the same specifications of the original Gibson Les Paul,But at a much reduced cost.

Up to about $2000 dollars less. This enables the average joe to afford a quality instrument without the high price.

The epiphone les paul standard as well as their other models have the same power, tone, playability as the original Gibson.

This is the main reason that is is considered the best value in over all for moderately priced guitars.

Since the”les Paul” name is on it, the same specifications that are used at epiphone, are used at gibson.

The brand awareness is so good that most people think that when you buy an epiphone les paul standard, it is actually a Gibson.

If you play both the Gibson and the Epiphone guitars blindfolded you cannot feel our here the difference. Sweet!

That’s what made me finally decide on the Epiphone Les Paul Standard. I mean why spend all that extra money if it plays and sounds the same?

Very similar to a Gibson Les Paul Standard, it has a solid mahogany or alder body, Set-neck mahogany neck (most models) with a rosewood fretboard, Alnico Classic Humbuckers, Grover Machine Heads and a Tune-o-matic bridge.

Is considered by some to be the flagship Les Paul model made by Epiphone. There is also “Plain-Top” model that features a plain maple top and a “Plus-Top” model that features a flame maple top.

So here is The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Review!

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Review-Plus Top

epiphone-les-paul-standard-plus-top review

If you would like the classic style of the sunburst flamed finished Les Paul check out the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top.Epiphone offers both the wood and the look of the original gibson.

The back and neck of the plus top are transparent. Hold it to the light and you can see the lenes of the would. It has an amazing finish.

The hue and lacquer will vary depending on wich finish you like. The classic cherry sunburst is the most popula. It is also available in amberburst. Both finishes blend seemlisly with the top.

The neck of The epiphone les paul standard plus top is patterned from the original 1960′s Gibson, much thinner than there 50′s model. Very clean and easy to play. And of course the tuning keys are original grovers.

The pickups are modeled after the Gibson 498T and 490R humbuckers. These provide a modern sound due to a better upper mid range response. There are plenty of harmonics from the bridge and a decent tone at the neck.

Overall Rating 4.5/5 (for guitars between  $400-$850)

  • Playability 4/5
  • Quality of Construction 4/5
  • Sound Quality and Tone 4/5
  • Finish 4.5/5

Epiphone Les Paul Standard Review- Plain Top

epiphone les paul standard plain Top review
The only differencesbetween the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top and the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plain Top is the flamed finish and the fact that this guitar is not available in a lefty model.

This is only cosmetic and doesn’t change  the sound or performance of the guitar. Playability, neck, pickups and everything else are all exactly the same as the Standard Plus.

There are a lot of players that regardless of price prefer a Plain Top finish, the Epiphone Les Paul Plain Top is cheaper than the Standard Plus. In these times that could really help.

Overall Rating 4/5

  • Playability 4/5
  • Quality of Construction 4/5
  • Sound and Tone 4/5
  • Finish 4/5

epiphone les paul standard review

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Tribute features Gibson’s ’57 Classic humbucking pickups, which eliminate the hum that occurs in open coil pickups.

The ’57 Classic pickup at the neck provides a warm, subtle and full tone with good response.

The ’57 Classic Plus pickup near the bridge is made to replicate Gibson PAF humbuckers of the fifties. This pickup combo gives a rich, vintage tone, along with a high output.

Both ’57 humbuckers have Gibson’s special Alnico II magnet, vintage enamel coated wire, nickel-plated pole pieces, maple spacers, nickel slugs, and vintage-style, braided wiring.

Using Les Paul’s 4-conductor pickup wiring, Epiphone added 2 push/pull tone pots to allow for series/parallel pickup switching. This guitar features a solid mahogany back, a carved maple top, and a solid, one-piece, mahogany neck.

The SlimTaper neck is “D” shaped and more bend-friendly. This Les Paul has all the standard sounds, but allows the player to create different sounds with various different tonal options. It comes in a 2 colours: Faded Cherry Sunburst or Translucent Black. Very cool Guitar!
